Gluten Free in New York City

The best part about searching gluten free in New York City is that most places that do accommodate this allergy are often organic and environmentally friendly.
On my 4 day trip, here are some places that I recommend since its really not easy to find good and affordable in NYC.

1) Bareburger
*organic  *grass fed  *sustainable  *free range  *all natural *Vegan options

My choice: beef burger + tapioca burger bun + red cabbage slaw

About the Menu: you either choose a pre-assembled burger OR choose your own bun, meat (beef, chicken, bison, boar, vegan options, etc!!), toppings, extensive array of cool sauces and sides. I recommend building your own if your indecisive.
Prices: depends on how many toppings you add. I think burgers start around 9$, but with added toppings and tip, expect to spend closer to 20$. They do not come with a side. Very reasonable!
My Suggestions: I made the mistake to get "well done" because it was a bit dry, but I am sure it has wonderful potential otherwise. Also, get the sweet potato fries! Yum! Slaw was great too.
The GF bun: FAN-FRIGGEN-TASTIC! They nailed this recipe. Its fluffy, toasted nicely, great flavour, texture… everything you could hope for.

*100% made in house  *never frozen  *"all natural and organic whenever possible" *compostable packaging

My Choice: Teriyaki Salmon + brown rice + carrot / greens salad

About the Menu: Choose your protein, then white or brown rice, then kind of salad dressing (only one  dressing is GF). They also had fresh young coconuts in the soda fridge!
Prices: Expect to spend around 11-15$
My Comments: So this was not a mind blower, and my little piece of salmon there had quite a big chunk of burnt bit, BUT, I would still come back. Searching gluten free is hectic enough, and as a fast food, I would choose this any day. The sauce had a very unique taste, a sweet sour tang. My brother loved it a lot. I think I would have to go back and try the other meats. I also like that the portions are not American-expected-enormous. I also love the short grain korean style brown rice!
Sitting: it is a VERY small place, so go over to central park and eat there!

My brothers choice: the combo of beef and chicken - he loved it!

3) I heart Chipotle's
BEST FAST FOOD OF ALL!!!   *Organic  *Family farmed  *local  *see their website for details

I highly recommend watching the documentary on Netflix on how the company started, and to learn more about their values of sustainability. Or here on Youtube:

Menu: you can always get scrumptious meat, rice, and tons of wonderful sauces and vegetables. Their guacamole is wonderful! Coming from Montreal where good mexican cuisine is no where to be found, this is a little piece of heaven.
Do not worry about big line ups: this is the fastest, most organized assembly line I have ever seen. I think there were 40 people ahead of us in line and we waited maybe only 8-10 minutes.
Prices: around 10-12$

My Choice: Carnitas (pork) + brown rice + guacamole + black beans + salsa +salsa verde + corn slaw + lettuce + TLC

4) My first Gluten Free Beer: Daura
I was so sad that beer was out the window, but not anymore!
I tried this beer and it was incredible! I would even order it over regular beers. Too bad in Montreal you can only find GF beers at the grocery store and not in bars.
I am kind of sick of cider…

Other places I checked out but did not eat there:

1) Pala - gluten free pizza (more expensive, starting at 16$)
2) Tu-Lus Gluten free bakery (very very small display window, mostly cupcakes)
3) The Hummus Place - looks awesome!! sad we did not try
4) Little Skips (brooklyn) - looked cute! - GF sandwich bread
