Veg Curry + Garlic Nan = heaven

Silky, creamy, definitely not fat free, and yet good enough to convert any child to vegetables. Indian Curry.
We were in Auragabad seeing the famous caves that were no doubt the best I have ever seen.
I just started my trip, so went safe and avoided meat, and praised God that garlic nan is not a risk factor of getting sick.
The look speaks for itself.

Malai Kofta - a hidden gem on every Indian menu

Joney's Place Restaurant - Agra, India
Can I say, next time your going out for Indian food and want to try something new and not the same old curry or tandoori, order this. Malai Kofta.

It's guaranteed delish, vegetarian, and exploding with flavour.
The way I mostly had it was deep fried potato balls stuffed with veggies or cheese, in a scrumptious sauce that varies depending on which region you are. I've had fantastic tomato buttery sauce to rich creamy garlic goodness.
Its a win win situation.

Why would I choose Pizza in India??

Because it was a tikka malasa pizza with tofu chunks.
And it was a local packed vegetarian restaurant (only option around the auragabad caves), which our tuk tuk driver recommended!
Took around an hour to come out... but out it did come... and it was warm, crusty, spicy, saucy, cheesy. just perfect. Indian dish into a pizza. I wish I could go back for more.

Falooda Lassi - Mumbai

At the Lonely Planet recommend, Leopold's Café, I got myself the one lassi in which I had no idea what it was! Here was this beautiful, ice cream scoop topped chiller on a hot day. But sadly... I dislike rose water, and that was definitely going on inside! Otherwise vanilla deliciousness all around and mini tapioca seeds to sip on. So refreshing for the heat.

Channa Masala

Simple but delish. Chickpeas in a spicy, tomato-ey masala.
I know its devilishly spicy when seeing these little white saffron spice shaped looking things in the sauce... That was a killer. This was mumbai street food, so a samosa was hard to resist. It was filled with a potato cumin seed and pea mash. Oh soooo damn good.
But beware. Only eat them freshly fried!

Best channa masala ever: across Ajmer train station in a baggy to go.
Second best: cooking class in Mcleod ganj.

My First meal in India. Masala Dosa

Intimidated by the crazy culture shock when arriving in Mumbai, I went to the closest local looking place to my guesthouse (Traveler's Inn). I ordered a familiar title, Masala Dosa. A soft pancake made of rice flour, and a potato cumin seed filling. Sides include some spicy coconut sauces, a brothy liquidy spicy sauce, some raita yogurt and some sweet orange jelly to finish you off.
This particular picture was from a lonely planet recommended resto in New Delhi, which has mini idlis (spongy rice cakes) and a spicy curry-like sauce.

#1 reason to travel? FOOD!

Hello fellow foodies.

Where to start?
After 6 months of travelling in India, Israel, Petra, Cairo, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and finally China, I can say that there is no such thing as a palette overdose due to excess amount of scrumptious local flavours from every country.
To be honest, my taste buds are rather sad being back in north America, so, I hope this blog will help all of you, and myself, escape back into the fantastic world of food.

My goal on this trip for every meal was to find the most local, cheapest, jam packed with locals, hole in the wall street stall restaurants, to discover the true flavours of each country. I kept a food diary along my journey to record and remember every bite.
I also took Indian, Tibetan, Indonesian, Cambodian and Chinese cooking classes.

I want to share it all with you.

So it began with India...
